I believe that it really does take a team to educate a child. This can include other teachers, related service providers such as speech pathologists or occupational therapists, or parents that want to participate fully in their children’s education. I have found that my students have the most growth when educators and parents have a team based approach. I encourage you to listen in our sessions and to employ the same strategies and language when you read with your child.
I’m happy to collaborate with other educators that have worked with your child in the past. Sometimes a quick conversation or email can help me learn much more about your child than simply reviewing their documents. We can also discuss how we can coordinate our efforts to ensure your child makes the most growth possible.
Some families would rather that I assess their learner independently so I don’t go into it with any preconceived notions about their current reading skills. Parents have used my assessments to monitor their progress independently or to gain additional information about their learner’s reading skills.
